From Dr. Mikao Usui to Arthur Robertson
Usui Reiki traces its roots to Japan in the early 20th century with Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Usui System of Natural Healing. After a profound spiritual experience during a period of meditation and fasting on Mount Kurama in 1922, Dr. Usui developed a method of healing that works with universal life force energy to support balance, relaxation, and well-being. He began teaching and sharing this healing practice with others, emphasizing personal growth, spiritual development, and compassionate service.
One of Dr. Usui’s dedicated students was Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, a retired naval officer and physician. Dr. Hayashi further developed and organized the Reiki system, creating structured hand positions and treatment protocols that helped make Reiki more accessible and consistent for practitioners and clients alike. He also established a Reiki clinic in Tokyo, where many people came to receive treatment and training.
In the 1930s, Hawayo Takata, a Japanese-American woman from Hawaii, traveled to Japan seeking relief from serious health concerns. She received Reiki treatments at Dr. Hayashi’s clinic and experienced significant improvement in her well-being. Impressed by the results, she chose to study Reiki directly under Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, eventually becoming one of his devoted students.
Hawayo Takata returned to Hawaii and began sharing Reiki with others. Among Takata’s 22 Master students was Iris Ishikuro. Iris trained only two Masters. One was Arthur Robertson, who in 1980, continued this tradition of teaching and sharing Reiki with others, contributing to the spread of Reiki practice across the United States.
Through each generation, Reiki has been passed from teacher to student with intention, care, and respect—preserving both the practice itself and the spirit in which it was originally shared.
Jennifer comes from a pure Reiki lineage with only 9 Masters between her and Dr. Mikao Usui.
With humility and appreciation, I acknowledge the teachers who have shared their wisdom and entrusted this practice to the next generation. The following lineage represents the path through which Reiki has been passed to me. Each practitioner stands within a living tradition that has been carefully carried forward through dedication, practice, and service.

Reiki induces profound relaxation, which shifts the nervous system from a "fight-or-flight" state to a "rest and digest" state - helping to quiet the mind, release tension, and reduce anxiety.
By activating the parasympathetic nervous system, Reiki can assist with chronic pain management, decrease discomfort before and after surgery, and relieve side effects of treatments like cancer therapy. Reiki is not a substitute for conventional medical care. It is intended to support your overall wellness alongside traditional care.
Reiki clears energetic blockages - fostering improved mental clarity, emotional release, and a heightened sense of peace, often aiding with burnout.
By promoting deep relaxation, calming the nervous system, and releasing energy blockages that cause insomnia and stress, Reiki reduces anxiety and stabilizes physiological functions - fostering restful sleep.
By lowering stress and improving energy flow, Reiki supports and accelerates your body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki can help diminish physical pain, alleviate symptoms of chronic conditions, improve the immune system and support faster healing of wounds, bruises, and injuries.
